Going through a career change can be a lonely time.

  • You can’t talk with your co-workers as freely as you’d like.
  • Your family may not be completely supportive because no matter what or how you decide to change, your actions are likely to impact them in unpredictable ways, which makes them feel uncomfortable.
  • Your friends may be tired of listening to you talk about this particular topic.

Having been through my own career change and having watched many others navigate their own, I know how important it is to have the support you need as you let go of old pictures and dreams to allow new ones to take root in your life.

Often just a slight shift in perspective can make a world of difference in what feels possible. A coach helps you break through to a new level by helping you see inconsistencies in your thinking, gaps in your assumptions, and limitations you no longer need to live by.

Your options for support vary depending on how you are working through the program. Look over the following chart to determine how you can reach out for support. The form of support you choose will depend on your preferences and needs. Trust you intuition.

If you are guiding yourself through the program…

Contact one of the Career Clarity Coaches for support. Their training, experience with the program, and ability to ask you questions you might not know to ask yourself, can open you up to new ideas, perspectives, and solutions.

Do NOT wallow in feeling stuck. If you can’t see a way out today and you haven’t seen one for the last few weeks, it’s time to reach out. One session may make all the difference!

If you are guiding yourself through the program with coaching support at key points…

Contact your Career Clarity Coach to help you through this stuck point.

Do NOT try to hold out until your next scheduled session. You’ll make much more progress if you get the support you need when you need it. By getting that help you’ll be able to reach new heights by the time your previously arranged appointment comes along.

If you are part of a teleclass or support group…

If you are participating in a support group, talk to your facilitator about where you feel stuck. Send an email or talk to her by phone prior to your next group session.

In most cases, helping you with your situation helps others in the group who may be feeling something similar. Depending on your situation, however, your facilitator may also recommend a one-on-one session to give you personalized attention to reach your break through.

Do NOT hold back in asking for help. If you don’t let your facilitator you know feel stuck, you may fall behind the group.

If you are working with a coach…

If you are already working with a Career Clarity Coach, please describe your frustration and stuckness to them.

The two of you may take a slight detour from the program to address your specific concern. Detours like these are designed to meet your needs and can be very effective in illuminating the issues that have kept you stuck in the past. Be as honest and forthright as you can so your coach can assist you in the most effective way possible.

Remember, you can upgrade your level of support at anytime. If you’ve been working on the program alone so far, consider including coaching support. Sure, it’s an investment to work with someone individually. At the same time working with someone is a catalyst that allows you to leap forward in ways you can’t imagine at the moment.

Visit the Coach Profiles to find someone you’ll feel comfortable working with. Each coach offers a free 30 minute introductory consultation so you can both verify the coaching relationship will be a good fit.
